Punta Cana is in the Dominican Republic, a Caribbean country that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti. Hispaniola is located between Cuba and Puerto Rico.

Spanish is the official language of the Dominican Republic, but tourists shouldn’t worry too much if they don’t speak the language. According to the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism, English fluency is common in big cities and tourist destinations as well as French, German and Italian.
Not only is the Dominican Republic the second-largest country in the Caribbean, but it was also the second most popular tourist destination in Latin America in 2021 with five million international tourists visiting the country. There are over 24,000 hotel rooms in Punta Cana according to U.S. News & World Report, many of those being in all-inclusive resorts.
Punta Cana has year-round tropical weather, which attracts many East Coasters looking to escape the winter. The average year-round temperatures range from 78 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Rain is short lasting, and the country enjoys a dry season from December to May.
Punta Cana is also a famous choice for East Coast spring breakers because of the short travel distance. Almost anyone on the East Coast can get to Punta Cana in under four hours and the middle of the states in just over five.
